Edward Lim, a Lazihanon living/working in Chicago, prepared for the 22.6 mile Chicago marathon several months ago. He also decided to use this opportunity to raise funds for SHFI in support of the Church/Convent restoration project. GOOD NEWS.. Edward Lim completed the Chicago marathon in about 4 hours and 20 minutes. He could have finished it under 3 hours but, being the kindhearted Siquijodnons that we are, and him being a nurse, he noticed another runner having so much pain towards the last few miles or so. The runner had so much pain in the knees and thighs.. Edward indicated that he is a nurse and that he could help him if needed. They rested for about 10 minutes and Edward made sure the man replenished his lost fluids. After the rest, Edward helped the man decide to go on and finish, after all, he was way past the midway mark.. They started walking at a fast pace.. at about a thousand yards from the finish line, Edward asked him to run to the finish and they did. In spite of that, he finished the 26.2 miles in 4hr 20min... clocking about 10 minutes per mile. Great pace indeed. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Another GOOD NEWS... Edward's marathon collected over a thousand dollars for the Siquijor Heritage Foundation, Inc. He said that he is still collecting pledges and will forward me the monies soon. Edward would like to express his thanks for all your support and prayers that he complete this marathon injury-free, which he did. In addition, SHFI also thanks you for your support and THANK YOU, EDWARD!!!!

The raffle fundraising went fine. There were last minute sales just before the start of the drawing of winning tickets. Fr. Fontejon announced in the 2 morning masses that draw will be after the 2nd a.m. mass and that tickets were available a few minutes before the draw started. The foundation got a net of (Pesos) 66 thousand plus. Since the heading of the tickets was the Parish, Fr. Fontejon decided that it be handled by the Parish Pastoral Council Board, kay the PPC implements the activities of the parish as approved by the priest. In their meeting last January, the PPC made a resolution to undertake the raffle and endorse the entire proceeds to the Siquijor Heritage Foundation. Remittance of ticket sales were handled by Nang Basyon Jumawan (PPC treasurer and SHFI auditor) and Verna Mamicpic-Alih, SHFI treasurer. Distribution of ticket stubs was done by the PPC through the various church related organizations and the barangay chapel organizations. They really worked hard and demonstrated great team effort. VNang Basyon and Verna counted the money Sunday morning (May 11), signed the tally sheet, wrapped and bound the money well and endorsed the bundle to Fr. Fontejon for safe keeping. The PPC will formally endorse the net proceeds to the SHFI this coming May 18th, after the 6:00 a.m. mass. The raffle draw was held right on the front steps of the church. Lydio Ligutom, SFHI president, was the emcee and called persons from the audience to draw the winning tickets. It started with the consolation prizes, then the 3rd prize. Nong Dodong Launcelot Ligutom was asked to draw the 2nd prize winning ticket. Nang Mina Partosa was asked to draw the first prize winning ticket. Nang Mina's daughter, Dolly, was on hand to take photos. |
